The Ghost Of The Green Lantern On St. Martin’s Island

 

At one time, a lighthouse keeper lived on St. Martin’s Island along with his family. His wife passed away and left the man to care for his children alone. He loved his children and wanted them to get the best education. He bought a small dory for the children to row to the mainland in order to go to school every day.

The children would do as their father asked and row to the mainland every day, go to school and then row the boat back to the lighthouse on St. Martin’s Island. One spring as the children were rowing back home from school, a sudden squall overturned the rowboat. The squall sent the rowboat along with the children to the depths of the lake. The children were not found.

From that day forward, the lighthouse keeper would search the shoreline for his children. He would use the light from a green lantern and search every night without giving up.

Today, if you visit the mainland and peer out at St. Martin’s Island on a stormy night, you may catch a glimpse of the green lantern. Some believe the man is still searching for his children lost to the lake while others believe he is warning others so they will not share the same fate.
